The inaugural dinner for the new Bailliage was a most enjoyable evening. A great menu was prepared by Maitre Rotissieur, Germain Marquis and served by the team led by Glannis Marquis, Maitre de Table, plus a full restaurant of Members and Guests.

The guests included Marie Jones, Membre du Conseil Magistral, Membre du Conseil d'Administration, Chris Lewis, Bailli Delegue de Grande Bretagne, the Baillis of Solent and Thames Valley, Jenny Handscombe and Vic Laws, Larry Cunningham, Bailli Honoraire du Solent and Paddy Dawson, Argentier Honoraire de Grande Bretagne.

Germain is a Parisien who trained under Alain Dutournier, the well known 2-star Michelin Chef, then after working in hotels in Germany, moved to Johannesburg and opened his first restaurant which was soon awarded the best restaurant in Jo'burg by the Rand Daily Mail.

Moving on to his second restaurant, he again collected many awards, including American Express "Best French Restaurant in South Africa". This was followed by running a luxury hotel in the Seychelles and later an internationally famous game lodge in Botswana. In 2004 he decided to come back to Europe and settled in Hampshire.

A truly great start for the Bailliage.
